Some applications, especially in high-security sectors like finance or healthcare, use certificate pinning or are highly sensitive to man-in-the-middle decryption, which can cause failures. The best practice is to create a targeted ‘No Decryption’ rule for the specific FQDN (not just IP) of the business-critical application. This maintains security for all other traffic while allowing the excepted application to function. This action must be accompanied by a documented risk acceptance.

Zero Trust mandates allowing only known-good applications, not just ports/IPs. Using `application=mysql` and `service=application-default` ensures the firewall uses App-ID to verify the traffic is legitimate MySQL application traffic on its default port (3306). This is more secure than just allowing the `mysql` service/port (Option A), which could be used by any other application on that port. App-ID provides positive control model enforcement.
